Mr. André Picard, Globe & Mail Public Health Reporter
Andre Picard is the public health reporter at The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987.  He has received much acclaim for his writing, including the Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism, the Canadian Policy Research Award, the Atkinson Fellowship for Public Policy Research and the Award for Excellence in Woman’s Health Reporting.  In 2002, he received the Centennial Prize of the Pan-American Health Organization as the top public helath reporter in the Americas.

Andre is the author of three best-selling books, CRITICAL CARE: Canadian Nurses Speak for Change, THE GIFT OF DEATH: Confronting Canada’s Tainted Blood Tragedy, and A CALL TO ALMS: The New Face of Charity in Canada.

Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner, Ontario
Recognized as one of the foremost privacy experts in the world, Dr. Ann Cavoukian is Ontario’s first Information and Privacy Commissioner to be reappointed for a second term.  Initially appointed in 1997, her role in overseeing the operations of the freedom of information and privacy laws in Canada’s most populous province was extended to 2009.  Dr. Cavoukian is widely regarded as a distinguished speaker and is frequently called upon to present at major forums around the globe.

Hon. George Smitherman – Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario
The Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for Ontario, has set some records: as one of the longest serving Ministers of Health and by embarking upon Ontario’s ambitious transformation agenda.  Driven and unafraid to speak from the heart, Hon. Smitherman has spearheaded change on many fronts: investments in community care, creating local health integration networks, managing system capacity and wait-lists, as well as forging new accountability agreements from providers, to name among a few.
